Firstly, make sure that your device’s GPS is enabled and that the Macs Adventure app has location access set to 'Always Allow'. You can check this in your device's settings.
Then, simply tap on the relevant day of your trip, and if multiple trails are available, choose one from the list to view the day's activity overview.
Tap on the map image to expand the view to full screen. You can also swipe down on the elevation profile to view the map across the whole screen.
Once you're ready, tap on the green 'Start' button, and the app will track your progress along the planned route.
If you go off-track, the app will send you an audible and vibrating alert so you can get back on track.
Zoom in or out on the map as needed, and follow your position with the orange arrow on the map.
To locate yourself at any point (helpful if you have scrolled away from the map), tap the locator icon in the bottom right corner. It appears as a small white circle with an arrow in the center.
Yellow icons on the map indicate where your Macs-booked accommodation is located in relation to the trail. Keep in mind this may not be directly at the start or end of a trail.
You may also see various blue icons on the map marking selected waypoints or highlights along the trail. Tapping on these will reveal further information.
An elevation profile panel is also available, so you can see where those big ascents and descents are.
The text on the Activity screen provides additional details as to what to expect on the trail.
You can also read reviews from other Macs Adventurers, which is a great way to find out about recent trail conditions or to get some tips on the highlights along the way. Don't forget to share your own review and photos when you finish your walk!
